Rufford Old Hall is a 16th Century Tudor Hall in Ormskirk, Lancashire. I decided to visit in February on half term week. The house itself wasn’t open but The Great Hall was. There was a fire in the grate and victorian games going plus a magician to keep everyone entertained. Legend has it that a young William Shakespeare once performed in this Great Hall, entertaining Sir Thomas Hesketh and his raucous guests. We ate in what used to be the house kitchens. I had a delicious game pie which was served in it’s own pot. This is perhaps a smaller property than some we have closer to Manchester but is well worth a visit due to it’s interesting mix of architecture – the Hall has been adapted and added to significantly over time. And if anyone goes when the house itself is open tell us what it’s like.
