The People’s Republic of Hulme

Just been listening to this rather lovely documentary that was on Radio 4. It’s on iplayer for another week and you should definitely give it a listen if you have an hour to spare. Here’s the link: http://beta.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/console/b00t834y/The_Archive_Hour_The_Peoples_Republic_of_Hulme

The documentary features John Robb of Goldblade fame, some music from Single Cell Collective who are a really talented bunch of guys and gals and very nice with it too. There’s also some interviews with people who lived in Hulme from the 60’s to the 80’s and their memories of The Crescents, the parties and clubs (including the Russell Club aka PSV Club) and the mix of cultures that Hulme brought together some of which feature in the Moving Memories film collection which I was kindly invited to see at Gorton Monastery the other Sunday.
